Summer Social Media Recap
Welcome to your summer social media recap! I used to share these updates regularly in reel form, but I thought it was time to take the recap over to the blog. This allows me to go deeper - not only to inform you of the latest updates but also to discuss what they mean for you!
Keep an eye out; you might see Instagram Groups popping up here soon! Instagram has been beta testing groups, similar to Facebook, which would allow multiple users to share content on a single page. As we understand it so far, joining a group would enable you to be one of many people to share content on that page, and following a group would allow you to consume that content.
Personally, I'm excited for this! Facebook groups are one of the main reasons most people I know still use the platform, so I'm interested to see how this competition will play out. Will Facebook groups eventually become obsolete?
YouTube
Have you hopped on the YouTube Shorts train yet? If not, now might be the time. Not only is the platform way less saturated than TikTok, but they're also rolling out new features, such as Collaborations (similar to Duets) and Q&A stickers. With tools like these, implementing a Shorts strategy is easier than ever.
Bonus Tip: Did you know that the YouTube algorithm filters your home page based on the length of content you consume? Simply put - users who consume long-form content will be suggested similar videos, and users who consume shorts will be suggested the same! When you're planning your content strategy, consider what type of content your target audience is interested in, and then use that as a starting point for creating your videos!
The platform recently released its Q2 stats, and it looks like its user growth is slowing just a bit. I won't bore you with the numbers, but the most interesting part was that Gen Z was the most active age group on the platform! If Gen Z is your target audience and you're not active on Pinterest, maybe it's time to jump on board!
X... Do I need to say more? (lol) I'm curious to see if the platform continues to grow through the rebrand, or if they'll start to see a drop-off in users. What are your thoughts?
TikTok
Guess who's venturing into the world of text posts? Amid all the “X” chaos, TikTok is testing to see if they can pull some disgruntled Twitter users over to their platform. Combine that with Threads, and I'm sure we're at the beginning of a huge platform shift.
Now I'm curious... Which platform do you spend the most time on currently? Tap here to head on over to my Instagram and join the conversation!
